Candace Smith began her teaching career at Gary Community School Corporation in 1988 and relocated to Memphis in 2007. She has over 30 years of teaching experience. Candace currently teaches first grade at Wells Station Elementary. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Science in Elementary Education. In addition to serving as a board member, Candace is the association representative for her school. She is a Foundational Skills Laureate and a member of the Instructional Leadership Team. While working as a classroom teacher, Candace has actively advocated for public education and educator rights. She is very passionate about education, literacy, and teacher policy.
